A skills workshop led by artist Lucy Wright on practice-led approaches to folklore scholarship, followed by an informal folklore walk through the city.
Lucy Wright is leading a skills workshop at the Scottish Storytelling Centre on Saturday 14 November, starting at 11am. The session looks at practice-led approaches to folklore scholarship, drawing on work that sits at the intersection of sculpture, performance and research. It's presented by TRACS (Traditional Arts and Culture Scotland), a co-operative network championing Scotland's shared traditions of music, song, storytelling, dance, crafts, customs and indigenous languages.
Wright is a self-described 'hedge morris dancer', the author of the Folk is a Feminist Issue manifesto and the originator of Dusking, a wholesale invention of tradition and an annual participatory project for anyone who's ever wanted to dance the sun down. The morning concludes with an informal folklore walk to find folklife happening on the doorsteps of the city.
The workshop is part of the Carrying Stream Festival 2026, which celebrates the organic route by which culture is passed from person to person and honours the legacy of the Scottish folklorist, songwriter and activist Hamish Henderson. Bursary places are available for those for whom cost is a barrier.
