Atmospheric tasting experience combining spirituality and storytelling with Scotland's west coast whiskies, led by guide Cheryl.
Whisky and Spirits: The Best of the West is at The Lost Close on Thursday 22 October, starting at 19:00. It's a tasting of five west coast whiskies, one from each of these regions: Campbeltown, Arran, Islay, Jura and Ardnamurchan. The whole evening is led by guide Cheryl, who brings together her passions for whisky, the West Coast of Scotland and the elements.
The tasting works its way through the five elements — Earth, Water, Fire, Air and Spirit — with each of the five drams standing in for one. Each one draws on the energy, landscape and stories of its region, so you're getting a bit of the West Coast in a glass. You don't need any whisky expertise to join in, just an open mind.

The venue is part of the draw. The Lost Close is one of Edinburgh's most atmospheric hidden spaces: a new Royal Mile venue housed in the underground dungeon of a former courthouse, buried for more than 200 years and rediscovered in 2019. It's at 1 Barrie's Close, Royal Mile, Edinburgh EH1 1RF. The venue also runs 'Closes & Coffee' with The Real Mary King's Close and the 'Haunted Drams' ghost and whisky walking tour, so if you're in the mood for more of the city's underground, there's plenty around it. Tickets are £55.69 per person.
