A dementia-friendly choir session with the Forget Me Notes choir, in which people with lived experience of dementia choose and perform the songs.
Together In Song is back at the Festival Theatre on Friday 6 November, hosted by Forget Me Notes, Edinburgh's dementia-inclusive choir. The session runs for about an hour, starting at 2pm in the venue's Event Rooms at 13-29 Nicolson Street, EH8 9FT.
The format is straightforward: the choir celebrates life's moments through stories and songs picked and performed by people with lived experience of dementia. Each month, the songs are chosen by a person or a group of people, so the audience gets to know them a bit better through the music they bring. It's less of a formal concert and more of a shared afternoon, with the songs and the stories behind them taking centre stage.
Together In Song is part of a wider programme of dementia-friendly social events the Festival Theatre runs for people living with dementia and their families. It sits alongside Tea and Jam, which is creative music-making; Journeys Through Rhyme, which brings together poetry, storytelling and music; and Brew and Blether, a regular for companionship and chat with a guest speaker or performer each time. The venue's front-of-house staff undergo both disability awareness and Dementia Friend training, and there's limited accessible parking available.
