Two performers bring everyday Edinburgh to life in an uplifting exploration of community resilience and urban underdevelopment.
This City plays at Summerhall on Sunday 6 December, with two performers bringing a whole cast of Edinburgh characters to life. It's written by Dylan Mooney and directed by Gwen M. Dolan, and the two on stage take on a multitude of roles, all of them living outside the city centre. The show looks at what it's like to be forgotten by the place you call home, and asks how communities survive during times of underdevelopment, and whose lives are viewed as important in a city ecosystem.
It's an uplifting exploration of community resilience, and the focus stays on the everyday Edinburgh that sits beyond the tourist centre. The two performers carry the whole thing, switching between characters to build out a world of people who might otherwise go unnoticed. It's a play about the parts of the city that don't always make the postcards, and the people who keep them going.
Summerhall is a big one for the city's arts scene, open all year round and home to theatre and gallery spaces, libraries, small museums, studios, workshops, and a pub, café, brewery and distillery. This one is in TechCube 0, so there's plenty of the venue to explore before or after if you're coming from across town.

One thing to keep in mind: it's recommended for ages 14 and up, and it contains strong language, drug use, violence and themes of racism and homophobia. It runs from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm, so it's a focused hour on a Sunday evening. Tickets are between £13.25 and £18.25.
