A thrill-packed night of bold, uncanny new theatre with haunting stories and dark humor at the Traverse Theatre, part of the Traverse's £1 Ticket Project.
The Witching Hour comes to the Traverse Theatre on Wednesday 2 December, a work-in-progress performance that pulls together new writing from emerging playwrights. The whole night is built around the eerie, the uncanny, and that thin point where the veil between worlds starts to fray. It's a collection of new pieces rather than a single play, so you'll see several different voices on one bill.
Because it's a work-in-progress, the evening blurs reality and imagination. The playwrights describe it as an invitation to confront darkness both within and without, told through haunting narratives, veiled humour, and provocative performances. The range is wide: some pieces take classic characters and distort them, while others are tales twisted beyond recognition. It's the kind of night where the tone shifts from one story to the next, and the work is still being shaped in front of the audience.
The performance is part of the Traverse's £1 Ticket Project, which keeps the entry price low. It runs for around two hours, including a twenty-minute interval, so there's a bit of a break to stretch your legs and talk through what you've seen before the second half kicks in. There's an age guide of 16+ for the night.
