Five-day winter music festival celebrating Scotland's jazz, trad and indie scenes, with headliners Jake Cogan and Malin Lewis, at the Traverse Theatre.
The Soundhouse Winter Festival takes over the Traverse Theatre from Thursday 26 to Monday 30 November, five days of jazz, trad and indie from across Scotland. It's the festival's third year, and the bill is curated from Scottish musicians by co-producers Douglas Robertson and Jane-Ann Purdy. The opening night features Heidi Talbot & Boo Hewerdine, and the rest of the line-up brings together Sacred Paws with Ray Aggs and Eilidh Rodgers, Jake Cogan, Matt Carmichael and Malin Lewis.
Beyond the headliners, there's a special commission by a Scottish jazz artist, a spotlight concert showcasing emerging jazz musicians, and music workshops for adults and young people. The Soundhouse Choir, led by founder Heather Macleod, opens the festival with a free performance marking the choir's tenth anniversary.
It's a bit of a story how this came together. The Soundhouse Organisation launched the festival in 2024 after taking over the production of Edinburgh Tradfest, drawing on their 2023 Fringe run at the Rose Theatre. The whole thing is built around Scottish talent, and it runs over St Andrew's Day and the Fair Saturday weekend. It's supported by Creative Scotland and The National Lottery, and the organisers describe it as a sophisticated alternative to the festive playlist fatigue that sets in by December — a vital fixture on Scotland's music calendar.
