New York jazz maestro Mike Davis makes his Scottish debut with his band, celebrating the music of Prohibition-era Harlem.
The Rhythm Rascals play the Traverse Theatre on Monday 9 November, with New York jazz maestro Mike Davis leading the band. It's his Scottish debut, and he's bringing his full group with him rather than appearing as a solo act. The set is built around the music of Prohibition-era Harlem, so the whole night is a look back at the jazz coming out of that particular New York scene during the 1920s.
Davis is the main feature here, and the band is his own, so the sound is shaped by his direction. The focus is on the Harlem jazz of the Prohibition years, a time when the city's nightlife was defined by speakeasies and the dance halls that grew around them. That's the music they're working with, and it's what the night is built on.
