Four-week introductory improvisation course for over-18s, with weekly Sunday sessions at Summerhall.
TBC Improv UK are running their Intro To Improv Course (101) at Summerhall this November, a four-week introduction to the basics of improvisation. It's the first step in their training: the 101 class lays the building blocks, and from there you can move on to 102 and 103, which lead into shortform and longform improv. No previous experience is needed, and the whole thing is pitched as a supportive, playful environment, so it's a good place to start if you've never stepped foot on a stage.
Over the four weeks, you'll learn how to create spontaneous scenes, craft memorable characters and collaborate to tell stories in the moment. The curriculum covers the fundamentals: 'Yes and...', giving and receiving offers, spatial awareness, mime, gibberish and non-verbal communication, character and status, trust and improv games. It's as much about listening and working with the people around you as it is about coming up with things on the fly.
