One-woman dark comedy by Tiggy Bayley about poverty, education and loss, part of the Traverse's winter programme.
Squidge plays Traverse Theatre on Thursday 3 December and Friday 4 December, both nights starting at 7:00pm. It's a one-woman dark comedy written and performed by Tiggy Bayley, directed by Selwin Hulme Teague and produced by Poppy Maxwell.
The show follows Daisy Wright, a woman in her early twenties who's broke, furious and freshly bereaved. She ends up in an unlikely friendship with Paddy Connors, a sharp, chaotic Irish Traveller boy she supports as a one-to-one assistant in an inner-city primary school. Bayley describes it as brutally funny and quietly devastating, and it looks at poverty, education and loss through a deeply personal exploration of contemporary life. It's a 65-minute show, and it's recommended for ages 16 and over because of loud noises.
It's been getting some good attention before it even lands here. It was shortlisted for the Popcorn Award 2024, and critic Deborah Frances-White called it a sensitive and challenging story about loss and love, naming Bayley an emerging talent to watch. The production is part of the Traverse's winter programme and its £1 Ticket Project, which keeps a good chunk of the season accessible.
