Free pop-up gig by singer Jake Cogan and guitarist Malcolm MacFarlane at The Portrait, previewing her Soundhouse Winter Festival show.
Jake Cogan plays at the Scottish National Portrait Gallery on Saturday 28 November, with guitarist Malcolm MacFarlane joining her. It's a pop-up session for the Soundhouse Winter Festival, and it serves as a preview of her full band gig later in the festival.
The set draws on her critically acclaimed debut album and her Burns project, Parcel of Rogues, alongside an exclusive first glimpse of songs from her forthcoming third studio album, which is currently in production. Cogan is billed as one of Scotland's finest singers, a rare voice with a strong connection between soul and song.
The venue is a red sandstone neo-Gothic palace dedicated to the Scottish story, decorated with elaborate murals and the world-famous Great Hall, whose Zodiac ceiling features over 2,000 golden stars and 47 constellations. Inside, contemporary portraits of pop culture icons like Billy Connolly, Emeli SandΓ© and Tilda Swinton sit alongside historical figures such as Mary Queen of Scots, Robert Burns and Charles Edward Stuart.
