SAY Award winners Sacred Paws bring their guitar riffs and uplifting indie-pop to the Traverse Theatre, with special guest Nani Porenta.
Sacred Paws play the Traverse Theatre on Friday 27 November, as part of the Soundhouse winter programme. They're a Glasgow duo, Ray Aggs (Trash Kit, Shopping) and Eilidh Rodgers (Golden Grrrls), who came up through the punk scene and brought in influences as different as Afrobeat, pop and post-punk. They describe the result as art punk, and it's a fair label for what they do: guitar-led and melodic, but with a bit of a jagged edge to it.
Their first album, Strike A Match (2017, Rock Action Records), won the Scottish Album of the Year (SAY) Award that same year and picked up a 7.7 from Pitchfork. They followed it with Run Around The Sun in 2019, and they're now touring their new album, Jump Into Life. Between the two, there's enough to pull from for a full set, and the new record sits alongside the older stuff.
Opening for them is Nani Porenta, a Scotland-based musician and songwriter. Her work blends introspection with an increasingly experimental, genre-fluid approach across indie and folk, with a growing focus on guitar-driven arrangements and sound design. Her most recent release is the EP Like Clockwork, which she shaped around grief.
