Jazz concert by Harben Kay with a specially assembled band for his piece 'Space for Dreaming', the first Soundhouse Winter Festival Special Commission.
Harben Kay brings Space for Dreaming to the Traverse Theatre on Saturday 28 November, a matinee that starts at 15:00. It's the first Soundhouse Winter Festival Special Commission, a piece Kay wrote as a pushback against the modern anxiety of relentless, hyper-visible creative production. He describes it as asking what happens when we take time to share, reflect and dream.
For the performance, Kay has put together a specially constructed band that expands a traditional jazz trio with tuba, guitar, voice and flute. The set explores the intersection of straight-ahead jazz and unconventional instrumentation, with Kay himself switching between tenor saxophone and flute. He's joined by Pippa Blundell on voice and guitar, Danielle Price on tuba, Brodie Laird-Jarvie on bass and Stephen Henderson on drums.
