Free standing sherry tasting session for over-18s at Cockburns of Leith, part of Sherry Week 2026.
Cockburns of Leith are running a free sherry tasting on Saturday 7 November, part of Sherry Week 2026. It's called Sherries Uncovered, and they're holding it at their shop on 48a Frederick Street in the New Town.
The session is run by the team at Cockburns of Leith, Scotland's oldest wine merchant, founded in 1796. They were named best wine shop in Scotland at the 2023 Decanters Retail Awards, and they're the ones leading the tasting. They'll walk you through a selection of different sherry styles from one of the world's oldest wine-producing regions, explain how sherry is made, and suggest pairings to go with what you're tasting. They've billed the whole thing as a way to start 'the sherry revolution'.
Beyond the tasting, the shop stocks fine wines and spirits, runs sample tastings, and delivers across the UK. The staff are described as knowledgeable and friendly, so it's a good place to ask questions if you're new to the stuff. The tasting is for over-18s only and is a standing event, so there aren't seats to settle into. You can find them on Instagram at @cockburnsofleith1796.
