Class acting productions of a Scottish Scrooge by SJM Performance Academy, with each show staged by a different school class.
SJM Performance Academy are bringing Scrooge to Summerhall on Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 November, their class acting productions moved from the studio to the stage. It's a playful Scottish twist on the Charles Dickens classic, set in the snowy streets of Edinburgh and following Ebenezer Scrooge, the meanest man in Auld Reekie, who's visited by three mysterious spirits on a frosty winter's night. The story wanders from the Royal Mile to the closes of the Old Town, and every performance is given by a different class, from P6/7 up to S4-S6.
That's the key thing to keep in mind: each show is a separate production. If you go twice, you're seeing the same story told by a different group of students, so you can catch the younger ones and the older ones on different nights. Each performance runs for 60 minutes.
Summerhall is a multi-arts venue in the heart of Edinburgh's Southside, and Scrooge is playing in the TechCube. There's an on-site restaurant, bar and cafe, so it's easy enough to make a proper afternoon or evening of it. The venue has become a hub for creation, education and entertainment, supporting the city's cultural community with a year-round programme of exhibitions, workshops, gigs and club nights.
