Screening of Jean-Pierre Jeunet's post-apocalyptic black comedy 'Delicatessen' at the Institut français d'Écosse, which is marking its 80th anniversary.
Delicatessen is screening at the Institut français d'Écosse on Friday 22 January 2027, starting at 18:00. It's a post-apocalyptic black comedy set in an alternate Paris gripped by a severe food shortage, where a former clown moves into a community of cannibals. If you've seen it before, it's a good one to revisit on the big screen; if not, it's a strange, darkly funny piece of French cinema that's well worth a first look.
The screening is part of a wider celebration at the Institut, which is marking its 80th anniversary with a week of events highlighting its role in bringing France and Scotland closer together. The Institut is a home for French language and culture in Edinburgh Old Town, and every room inside bears the name of a remarkable figure. It's part of a worldwide network, and throughout the year it runs French language courses, film screenings, library collections, activities for children, festivals, talks and concerts. The venue also runs its own series of screenings, the Cinetopia Salons.

As part of the anniversary, the building's façade is coming to life with a mapping projection created in partnership with Edinburgh Napier University. Between the film inside and the projection on the outside, there's a fair bit to see around the place that week. The screening itself is on Friday 22 January, 18:00, at the Institut français d'Écosse in Edinburgh Old Town.
