Screening of the drama 'Àma Gloria', about the bond between a six-year-old girl and her nanny, at the Institut Francais d'Ecosse.
Institut français d'Écosse is screening the drama Àma Gloria on Friday 17 December, a French film that centres on the bond between a six-year-old girl and her nanny.
It's a small, intimate story. The girl, Cléo, loves her nanny Gloria more than anything in the world, and for a long time, they're a constant in each other's lives. But when Gloria has to return to Cape Verde to look after her own children, the two are forced apart, and the film follows the fallout of that separation. It's a vibrant drama that spends its time on the relationship between them and what happens when it's pulled apart.
The screening is hosted by the Institut français d'Écosse, the cultural centre on West Parliament Square in the Old Town. They've been promoting French language, French culture and cross-cultural exchange in Edinburgh and across Scotland since 1946, and they're part of the wider Institut Français network. This fits right into that remit: a French film about a relationship that spans two different countries.
