Food and wine pairing evening from the Edinburgh Local Wine School, with seven Scottish delicacies matched to wines from around the world.
The Edinburgh Local Wine School is running a Scottish food and wine pairing evening at the Novotel Edinburgh Centre on Friday 6 November, part of its regular series of pairing workshops. The whole point is to take delicacies from Scotland's own larder and match them with wines from around the world, so you can see how the flavours work together and how each one brings out the best in the other. It's a two-hour session, and it's suitable for anyone following a gluten-free diet.
There are seven combinations to work through over the course of the evening. You'll get Arbroath Smokie with Sancerre, Tablet with Tawny Port, and Lanark blue cheese with Port. The Highland Game Terrine is paired with New Zealand Pinot Noir, Island Cheddar with Cabernet Sauvignon, and Loch Rannoch smoked duck with Valpolicella. The final pairing is Orkney Crab Pate with Oaked Chardonnay. It's a fair spread of Scottish produce—smoked fish, game, blue cheese, and a bit of tablet for something sweet—each with a wine from a different region.
