Saturday 5s at Portobello

Saturday 5s at Portobello returns to the Lucozade Powerleague Portobello on Friday 30 October, with the rugby 5s action kicking off at 11:00. It's a rugby 5s match, as the name suggests, so it's a smaller, faster version of the game than you'll find at the big stadiums — five players a side instead of fifteen, which opens up the pitch and keeps the ball moving. If you've never seen 5s, it's a good way to get a handle on the sport without needing to know every nuance of the full game.

The match is held at the Lucozade Powerleague Portobello, over at 10 Westbank Street in Portobello, EH15 1DR. It's a dedicated sports facility, so you'll be watching from the sidelines rather than a stand, and the action stays close to the touchline. It's a bit of a trek from the city centre, but it's right in the heart of Portobello, so it's an easy one to get to if you're already out east.

One thing to keep in mind is the timing. While the event is called Saturday 5s, this particular match is scheduled for Friday 30 October, starting at 11:00 in the morning. It's a late-morning kick-off, so you'll be in and out well before the weekend properly gets going. If you're around Portobello that morning, it's a straightforward way to spend a couple of hours watching some rugby.
