Festive Christmas event where children meet Santa in a cabin in West Princes Street Gardens, with a tale and a gift.
Santa is back in West Princes Street Gardens for Santa's Stories, which runs from 20 November to 24 December. It's one of the official Edinburgh Christmas events, and the cabin is set up near the Ross Fountain (EH1 2EU), right in the heart of the gardens.
It's not just a quick hello. The session lasts about 20 minutes, and the first part is the story: the cabin is decked out, hot chocolate is simmering, and blankets are toasted while you settle in for a festive tale. Once the story's done, you meet the big man himself. There are up to 22 children per group, so it's a shared experience rather than a one-on-one, and every child leaves with a gift. Most sessions also include a photo opportunity.
If you're looking beyond the gardens, there are other grottos and festive breakfasts across Edinburgh and the Lothians running from 4 December to 24 December. Most of those require booking well in advance and tend to sell out weeks ahead, especially on weekends, so it pays to get your date sorted early. A few of those venues also offer relaxed sessions—smaller numbers, dimmed music, and no flashing lights or loud noises—for children with additional needs.
Every week we pick 🏆 the 5 best 🏆 things to do in Edinburgh and send them to your inbox. Just one weekly email, no spam.
