Scottish Dance Theatre presents a new double bill by choreographers Emilie Leriche and Edouard Hue, exploring connection, intimacy and the nature of society.
Scottish Dance Theatre bring Rotten Work & The Game of Life to Traverse 1 on Tuesday 10 and Wednesday 11 November, both nights starting at 7:30pm. It's a double bill by choreographers Emilie Leriche and Edouard Hue, and it's the German premiere of the two pieces together. The company is Scotland's flagship contemporary dance troupe, and this run forms part of the Traverse's £1 Ticket Project.
The two halves sit in sharp contrast. Leriche's Rotten Work is a poetic, slow-burning piece that lingers on connection, intimacy and shared endurance, asking what it means to move forward together without leaving anyone behind. Hue's The Game of Life takes a different starting point: it's inspired by a puzzle, organic and sensation-driven, combining raw virtuosity with emotional intensity to explore how individuals fit together into a whole without surrendering their uniqueness. There's a suggestion in there that imperfection might be the very thing that keeps a society alive.
Between them, the bill runs an hour and twenty minutes, which includes a twenty-minute interval. It's recommended for ages 12 and over, and it's already picked up more than four stars from DanceScotland. The two choreographers come from different backgrounds: Leriche is US/Swedish and Hue is Swiss, and you can hear that international mix in the way the two pieces pull in opposite directions.
