A gruesome yet tender celebration of the joys and paranoias of girlhood, following two young girls trapped after their sudden deaths.
Audaciously Tenacious Theatre Company bring Perfect Dead Girls to the Traverse Theatre on 24 and 25 November. It's a two-night run at 10 Cambridge Street, Edinburgh West, EH1 2ED.
The play is a gruesome yet tender celebration of the joys and paranoias of girlhood. It's set in a purgatory plastered with graffiti, glitter and teenage angst, and follows two young girls trapped there after their sudden deaths. They soon discover they're not alone, and the two end up battling each other and their own demons through a fragmented collage of memories, music and Y2K pop culture. It's a piece that sits somewhere between a ghost story and a coming-of-age tale, with the Y2K references giving it a specific, nostalgic energy.
Perfect Dead Girls had a well-received run at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2025 and was part of the Scottish Mental Health & Arts festival. The company frames it as an exploration of how young women survive in systems that ask them to tear each other down, so there's a bit more to it than the purgatory setting suggests.

It's being staged at the Traverse Theatre, Scotland's new writing theatre and a registered Scottish charity. Their mission is to make theatre accessible to people across society, and they commission, produce and programme new stories and live performances with an emphasis on nurturing Scottish-based talent. They've built a reputation for originality and artistic risk, which fits the bill for a show that mixes graffiti, glitter and the afterlife. Perfect Dead Girls runs on 24 and 25 November at the Traverse, 10 Cambridge Street, Edinburgh West, EH1 2ED.
