Paint & Wine: Pissarro's Snowy Landscape

Birchwood Art Studio is hosting a Paint & Wine evening on Saturday 5 December, and this time the focus is on Camille Pissarro. The session is built around one of his winter scenes, Snowy Landscape at Éragny, so you'll be spending the evening painting your own version of that particular piece. It's a guided session, and you'll be handed a glass of complimentary fizz as you work, which is part of the whole setup.

If you haven't come across the studio before, it's in Craiglockhart, south Edinburgh. It was started in 2020 by two friends, Clare and Sam, who described it as 'one last hoolie' before they crumbled. Clare has since retired, leaving Sam and the office team — Beth, Beata and Raphie — to keep things going. Their mission is pretty straightforward: convincing the world, or at least south Edinburgh, that anyone can draw, paint and make. The studio takes its name from Sam's childhood home, the cottage of illustrator Jim Proudfoot, whose work the shop still carries.

The Paint & Wine nights run in the studio's twinkly, airy room, and the fizz is complimentary, so you've got a drink in hand while you work your way through the painting. It's a relaxed way to spend a Saturday evening, especially as the winter weather starts to set in.
