A new-writing night featuring extracts from four brand-new plays performed as rehearsed readings, with dramaturgical feedback and a bar session afterwards.
Page2Stage returns to the Traverse Theatre on Wednesday 16 September, with a new night of new writing produced by Michelle McKay and Laila Noble. The format is the one the night is known for: extracts from four brand-new plays performed as rehearsed readings in front of a live audience and an industry panel. On the night, the writers get dramaturgical feedback, and there's a bar session afterwards to keep the conversation going.
The four plays on the bill are Kayfabe by Nathan Scott-Dunn, Sam From Work by Ro Robertson, Constance by Simon Barker, and Stick and Poke by Laura Tansley. Because they're rehearsed readings, you're hearing the work in a fairly raw state, and the feedback given on the night is part of the whole thing.
Page2Stage started in 2018, when Michelle McKay founded it with support from Assembly Roxy. It came out of a lack of opportunities for creatives to develop and perform work and build networks here in Edinburgh. Laila Noble joined in 2019, and Creative Scotland funding first arrived in 2021, which helped the night re-launch after the pandemic. Further funding in 2023 made sure everyone involved was paid fairly. Now produced by McKay and Noble at the Traverse, it forms part of the theatre's £1 Ticket Project. It's also grown to include 'More Pages', a strand of pieces that started at Page2Stage and developed into full-length work.
