Monologue Tadpoles by Ella Hällgren, about grief and nature, staged as part of the Offspring festival at Summerhall.
Ella Hällgren brings her monologue Tadpoles to Summerhall on Friday 13 November, as part of the Offspring festival. It's a one-woman show about nature and nurture, grief and ghosts, and it follows a young woman who arrives at her father's house to clear out his things after his death, haunted by his presence in the house and by the nature around her. Hällgren writes, performs and produces it herself.
She's originally from the north of Sweden and now lives and works in Edinburgh. Her debut play, r/Conspiracy, was shortlisted for the Popcorn Award and the Scottish Theatre Awards on the Fringe, and she's currently commissioned by Strange Town and Long Story Short Theatre. Tadpoles sits within Offspring – Their Dark Materials, an autumn festival curated by writer and director Kolbrún Björt Sigfúsdóttir, known as Kol. Offspring launched in spring 2026 as the first of two annual festivals she programmes, so this is one of the shows in the second half of the year.
