New play 'Firesoul Wanted' by Icelandic playwright Kolbrún Björt Sigfúsdóttir, staged as a script reading at the Offspring Festival.
Kolbrún Björt Sigfúsdóttir brings her new play Firesoul Wanted to Summerhall on Friday 13 November, as part of the autumn edition of the Offspring Festival. It's a script reading, so you'll be hearing the text read aloud rather than a fully staged production. The show runs for 70 minutes, starting at 18:30 in TechCube 0.
Kolbrún—known to most as Kol—is an Icelandic playwright, director and dramaturg based here in Edinburgh. Firesoul Wanted is one of three full script readings in the autumn programme, which also includes a scratch event and two networking sessions. The whole thing is curated by Kol herself; Offspring launched in spring 2026 as the first of two annual festivals she's running, and this November edition is titled Offspring - Their Dark Materials. The aim is to get new plays in front of an audience and help them find potential partners for the future.
Kol comes to this with a fair bit of ground behind her. She was playwright in residence at the Reykjavík City Theatre from 2024 to 2026, and her play This Is a Gift premiered at Pitlochry Festival Theatre and the Icelandic National Theatre after being longlisted for the Women's Prize for playwriting and selected for the Royal Shakespeare Company's new canon, 37 Plays. Firesoul Wanted is her latest, and this reading is one of the few chances to hear it early on.
