A six-hour free afternoon of Northern Soul classics and dancefloor fillers spun by DJ James Deans at The Tarbet in Corstorphine.
The Tarbet in Corstorphine is hosting a Northern Soul afternoon on Saturday 14 November, six hours of the sound running from 2pm to 8pm. It's a long stretch of music rather than a short set, so you can drift in and out across the afternoon instead of committing to a single start and finish time.
DJ James Deans is on the decks, spinning Northern Soul classics and dancefloor fillers. If you're not familiar with the genre, Northern Soul is built on the uptempo, soulful records from the 60s and 70s that found a second life in the clubs of Northern England, and that's exactly what Deans is digging into here. It's a six-hour celebration of the sound, with non-stop tracks and a vibrant atmosphere for anyone who knows the records.
The Tarbet itself is a local bar and pub in Corstorphine, formerly the Centurion, and it's the kind of place that keeps something happening every night. Beyond the music, there's a wide selection of beers on tap, freshly cooked pizzas, and games like pool and darts. It also has Sky Sports, Premier Sports and TNT Sports in HD, so it works as a spot to hang out even when there isn't a DJ in the booth.
