A theatrical piece written and performed by Emma Frankland that reimagines Nirvana's 1993 MTV Unplugged concert, following its Edinburgh Festival run.
No Apologies plays at Traverse 1 on Thursday 12 and Friday 13 November, both nights starting at 7:30pm. It's a radical mis-remembering of Nirvana's 1993 MTV Unplugged concert, and the description puts it as a collision between theatre and grunge, autobiography and alternate history, fuelled by the experience of coming-of-age in the nineties. It's an hour and twenty minutes long, and it weaves together pop culture, mythology and ritual.
Emma Frankland wrote and performs it, and she's a multi-award-winning writer for theatre and TV. Harry Clayton-Wright directed, and Keir Cooper provided the original music and sound score. The show was produced by Marlborough Productions, who are known for queer-led, intersectional performance.
It's not a new arrival: it had a critically acclaimed Edinburgh Festival run in 2025, where it picked up the Bragi Award for creativity and artistic excellence and a Besties Award for new writing. Since then, the production has been on a major world tour, and these two dates at the Traverse are part of that run. It also forms part of the Traverse's £1 Ticket Project.
