Regular free open mic night where poets of all styles can share their work at the Scottish Storytelling Centre.
Loud Poets are back with another open mic night at the Scottish Storytelling Centre on Tuesday 23 February. It's part of their regular run at the venue, and the format is one you'll recognise if you've been before: open slots for anyone to step up and share their work, paired with a different feature performer each night. The open slots are the heart of it, and they welcome poets of all styles, so whether you're into spoken word, traditional verse or something in between, there's space for you to get your work out there.
They describe the night as a supportive and creative space, and that's a good way to put it. It's less of a formal reading and more of a community thing, where the focus is on the poets themselves rather than a curated line-up. The feature performer changes every time, so each night brings its own particular energy to the mix.
One thing that's worth knowing about the Scottish Storytelling Centre is how accessible it is. The whole place is wheelchair friendly, with level access to all the spaces, including the theatre. There are accessible toilets on site, and the one on the ground floor has baby changing facilities. Assistance dogs are welcome too, so it's a venue that's easy to get into and move around regardless of how you're arriving.
