Introductory wine tasting evening with the Edinburgh Local Wine School, where beginners taste six wines and learn the basics of tasting.
Edinburgh Local Wine School is running an Introduction to Wine Tasting at the Novotel Edinburgh Centre on Thursday 21 January 2027. It's a two-hour session that starts at 7:00pm, and it's aimed at people who are new to wine or just want to get to grips with the basics of tasting. Over the course of the evening, you'll taste six different wines and learn how to sip, swirl and sniff like a professional, pick out aromas and flavours, and work out how climate, weather and oak shape a wine. Professional ISO tasting glasses and tasting materials are provided, so you don't need to bring anything with you.
The session is one of the school's introductory tastings, and it's run by the Edinburgh branch of the Local Wine School Network. They describe the network as the world's fastest-growing network of independent wine schools teaching fun, accessible courses at all levels under the motto 'wine tasting for everyone'. Alongside these more relaxed classes, they also run professional qualifications for anyone looking to start or build a career in wine, so there's a path to follow if you find you've got a real appetite for it.

The tasting itself runs for two hours, from 7:00pm on Thursday 21 January, at the Novotel Edinburgh Centre, 80 Lauriston Place, Edinburgh, EH3 9DE. Tickets are £35.00.
