Beginner-level two-hour crochet workshop led by Leigh Thornton, covering basic skills, techniques and stitches for those new to the craft.
Leigh Thornton is running an introduction to crochet workshop at The Salisbury Centre on Saturday 16 January, from 4 pm to 6 pm. It's aimed at total beginners — the kind of person who's spent years imagining themselves making their own blankets, handmade jumpers or cushion covers but has never actually picked up a hook. If you've always wanted to start but didn't know where to begin, this is that starting point.
Thornton takes things from the very beginning, covering the basic skills, techniques and stitches you'll need to get going. The whole session runs for two hours, and it's designed to be accessible rather than daunting. Beyond the practical side, Thornton frames crocheting as an enjoyable, relaxing hobby — something that can help you recharge and regroup in times of stress while remaining fun and productive. It's as much about the headspace as it is about the stitches.
One of the best bits is that you don't need to bring a thing. All the materials and equipment are provided, and you get to take home your own crochet hook and yarn when you leave, so you can keep going with what you've learned. There's tea, coffee and biscuits available too, which fits the relaxed, slow-paced feel of the afternoon. The workshop is open to over-12s, so it works as a solo venture or something to do with a younger family member.
