Over-18s walking tour through the haunted closes of Edinburgh's Old Town, with stories of witches and Burke and Hare, before two drams of Scotch in the underground venue.
Haunted Drams: Ghost & Whisky Experience runs at The Lost Close on selected dates from 9 to 31 October, with each session lasting 45 minutes. It's a two-part night: a walking tour through the Old Town's most haunted closes, followed by a descent into the basement for two drams of premium Scotch.
Above ground, the walk threads through the forgotten corners of Edinburgh's Old Town. The stories cover 16th-century witches and executions, and they'll even show you how to spot a witch. You'll hear about Robert Johnson, who endured the longest recorded hanging in history, and the notorious Burke and Hare. The whole thing is led by experienced storytellers who keep the tales moving as you work your way through the closes.
Once the walk is done, the group heads underground to The Lost Close at 1 Barrie's Close on the Royal Mile. The venue is the dungeon of a former courthouse that lay buried for more than 200 years until it was rediscovered in 2019, following the Great Edinburgh Fire of 15 November 1824. During the renovation, workers found a rare Victorian Crossley engine built in 1878—the second-oldest surviving Crossley four-stroke engine in the world and the oldest in Europe—and it's still on display there. That's where you'll settle in for your two drams of premium Scotch.
