A three-day Halloween book fair with spooky city-wide book curations, a storytime and a pastry pop-up.
The Cookbook Shop in Leith is clearing its shelves of cookbooks to make room for the terrifying, the macabre and the moderately spooky for its Halloween Book Fair, which runs on 28, 29 and 31 October. It's a three-day takeover that pulls together seasonal book curations from independent bookshops across Edinburgh, with Typewronger Books and Spyglass Books among those contributing. The organiser describes the whole thing as having nostalgic Scholastic Book Fair vibes — that specific childhood feeling of a temporary book stall appearing in a place it doesn't quite belong.
Alongside the cookbooks being swapped for ghost stories and alarming non-fiction, the shop is running a special Halloween storytime and a Halloween-themed pastry pop-up, so you can browse the shelves with something sweet in hand. It's a bit of a shift for the shop, which is usually known for its culinary titles, but it fits right into its wider habit of a weekly Thursday midday storytime for children, drawn from its large selection of food-related storybooks.
