Debate academy presented by JCI Scotland for over-18s to hone their debating skills, held at The Place Hotel on York Place.
The European Debate Academy is coming to The Place Hotel from Friday 22 January to Sunday 24 January 2027, a full weekend of debating in the heart of the city. It's presented by JCI Scotland, and the whole thing runs in person at the hotel on York Place, so you'll be right in the thick of it rather than watching from a screen.
As the name suggests, it's a debate academy, and JCI Scotland describes it as a place for both aspiring and seasoned debaters to hone their craft. That's the core of it: it's not just a competition, but a weekend for people to work on their technique. If you've never stepped up to a podium before, it's a way to get started; if you've been doing it for years, it's a chance to sharpen what you've already got. The two sit side by side, so you'll likely find yourself in a room with people at very different stages of their debating life.

Because it's a full weekend, you've got Friday, Saturday, and Sunday to get stuck in. It's an over-18s event, and the venue is The Place Hotel, 34-38 York Place, Edinburgh EH1 3HU, which puts it within easy reach of the city centre. Tickets start from £130.72, and since it's a three-day run, that covers the whole weekend rather than a single session.
