DJ masterclass hosted by Yiota at Paradise Palms on Lothian Street.
Yiota is running a DJ masterclass at Paradise Palms on Tuesday 27 October, part of the EPiKA series. It's a session for anyone who's ever wanted to get behind the decks but hasn't known where to start, or for those who've been messing about with a controller at home and want to pick up some proper technique from someone who does this for a living. Rather than just watching a set, you'll be in the room while Yiota walks through the craft.
If you've never touched a mixer, that's fine — the whole point of a masterclass is to start with the basics and build from there. You'll get to see how a set is put together, how to blend tracks without it sounding like a train wreck, and how to read a room and adjust on the fly. It's the kind of thing that's usually kept behind the booth, so having it laid out in front of you makes a lot more sense than trying to figure it out by watching YouTube tutorials in your bedroom.

Paradise Palms is on Lothian Street, right in the heart of the city, so it's an easy enough trip in for a Tuesday evening. The session starts at 18:30, which is early enough that you're not cutting into your night too much, and it runs through the evening. Tickets start from £5, which is a fair shout for a few hours of one-on-one learning with a working DJ. If you've been thinking about starting out, this is a good way to get your feet wet without spending a fortune on gear first.
