A folk music session for experienced musicians to learn melodies by ear and expand their tune book, led by Rachel Beattie.
Rachel Beattie leads Folk Foundations at the Scottish Storytelling Centre on Sunday 4 October, from 15:30. It's part of Easy Sundays, the fortnightly sessions of stories, music, community and friendship hosted by the Centre, which they describe as a warm and welcoming space for everyone, with a variety of activities to enjoy.
Folk Foundations is aimed at musicians with some experience who want to grow their skills and confidence. The focus is on learning by ear, so you can expand your tune book and feel more at ease joining in at local folk sessions. Beattie, a singer and fiddle player, runs the session, and it's supported by TRACS (Traditional Arts and Culture Scotland) and the Centre.
The venue itself is a contemporary building on the Royal Mile, appended to the 15th-century home of Protestant reformer John Knox. It incorporates the historic John Knox House, the 99-seat Netherbow Theatre, and the George Mackay Brown Library, and serves as the headquarters of the Scottish Storytelling Network. The whole space is wheelchair friendly, with level access to all areas and accessible toilets.
