Three-hour hands-on workshop led by Isabell Buenz to learn pop-up engineering and book binding, making a weather-themed pop-up book.
Creative making: Pop-up books runs at the National Library of Scotland on Tuesday 10 November, from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm. It's a three-hour hands-on workshop where you'll make your own pop-up book inspired by the weather, and it's run by the library itself.
Over the course of the morning, you'll work through two distinct parts of the process. First, you'll learn the pop-up engineering mechanisms that make a page spring to life when you open it. Once you've got those moving parts sorted, you'll learn how to bind the pages together into a proper book. The weather theme gives you a starting point to work with, so you'll be building your pop-ups around that rather than staring at a blank page.
The session is led by Isabell Buenz, an Edinburgh-based visual artist, maker and workshop facilitator who also works across the Scottish Borders. Her background is in expressive arts for personal development and as a support method, so she's used to guiding people through a creative process rather than just demonstrating a technique. If you've never made a book before, that's a good thing to know going in.

It's a morning session, so you're in and out by lunchtime. The workshop runs from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm at the National Library of Scotland on George IV Bridge, and tickets were £15. It's now fully booked, so if you've been keeping an eye on it, this is the one that's gone.
