Edinburgh Ballet Theatre bring the story of CoppƩlia to life on stage at St Bride's Centre, a relaxed performance suitable for families.
Edinburgh Ballet Theatre bring CoppƩlia to the St Bride's Centre on Friday 23 and Saturday 24 October, with the Friday matinee as a relaxed performance. The story follows Dr Coppelius, a renowned inventor and toymaker whose most prized creation is a doll so realistic that the whole town believes her to be a real girl. Things kick off when a village girl called Swanhilda tries to talk to her, and a bright, curious girl called Francesca begins to dance, to everyone's surprise. Enraged, Swanhilda and her friends fight with Francesca's crowd, and that evening they sneak into Dr Coppelius's workshop.
The production is staged by Edinburgh Ballet Theatre, an amateur community dance company made up of diverse adult dancers from all over the world. They describe their aim as contributing to Edinburgh's cultural scene and providing a means of expression for adult ballet students, so this is a community company rather than a professional one. The show runs about an hour and 45 minutes including an interval, and babes in arms don't need a ticket as long as they sit on an adult's lap. Tickets start from £14, and the venue is at 10 Orwell Terrace, EH11 2DY.
