Illuminated Christmas trail with the Christmas Cathedral, the Fire Garden and twinkling Fireflies turning the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh into a winter wonderland.
Christmas at the Botanics returns to the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh from Thursday 19 November to Wednesday 30 December 2026. It's an illuminated trail that runs through the gardens, with time slots from 4.15pm until 8pm. If you've been before, you'll recognise the format: a walk through the grounds after dark, with the lights and music doing the heavy lifting.
The trail is put together by award-winning, internationally acclaimed light-trail producers, and this year's route brings back a few of the regulars. The Christmas Cathedral and the Fire Garden are both returning, and they're joined by twinkling Fireflies, a glowing Light Sphere, and the Laser Garden, which is set to music. There's also a glimpse of Father Christmas tucked in along the way.
It's become a bit of a fixture on the city's seasonal calendar, and it's a family-friendly one, so it works as well for a night out with kids as it does for a date or a catch-up with friends. The gardens are transformed into a winter wonderland of lights and music, and it's one of those things that's easier to describe as a 'festive experience' than a single attraction.

One thing that's worth knowing is that every visit supports the plant conservation work of the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, which is a registered Scottish charity. So, your ticket goes toward the gardens' wider work as well as the trail itself. It runs from 19 November through to 30 December, with time slots from 4.15pm until 8pm, so you've got plenty of dates to choose from across the run.
