Family festive concert by the RSNO, the RSNO Children's Chorus and the Manor School of Ballet, led by Head Elf Owen Gunnell.
Children's Classic Concerts: Elf Academy comes to Usher Hall on Sunday 13 December, a family festive concert that opens the season for the Royal Scottish National Orchestra. It's a big one on the stage: the RSNO is joined by the RSNO Children's Chorus and the Manor School of Ballet, all led by Head Elf Owen Gunnell.
The whole thing is built around a school-themed story, with Gunnell running the show. You'll follow a few different classes throughout: musical maths, wintery PE, and a Christmas dinner assignment in Home Economics. It's a way of weaving the music into a narrative that works for kids, rather than just sitting through a sequence of pieces. The RSNO Children's Chorus and the Manor School of Ballet are both part of the production, so you've got singing and dancing alongside the orchestra.

It's a joint effort between the RSNO, the chorus, and the ballet school, and the performance is supported by the Maurice & Nicola Taylor Charitable Trust. The afternoon starts at 15:00 at Usher Hall on Lothian Road, so it's a daytime slot that fits in before the evening rush. If you're planning a family outing, it's one of those that works as a standalone afternoon rather than a late night.
