A Gaelic-language evening of music, song and stories by Bothan Dhùn Èideann, part of the Carrying Stream Festival (Fèill Sruth an Eòlais) and honouring Hamish Henderson.
Bothan Dhùn Èideann are back at the Scottish Storytelling Centre on Friday 13 November, with a special session for Fèill Sruth an Eòlais, the Carrying Stream Festival. The night runs from 7pm in the Storytelling Court, 43-45 High Street, and is set to last about two and a half hours.
On the bill are Caitlin Dhòmhnallach, Fionnlagh Mac a' Phiocair & Caraidean, and Iain MacCarmaig, with piping, fiddle, songs, and special cèilidh guests. It's a Gaelic First night, so the whole evening is in Gaelic, and there's no translation provided. That's the point, though — it's open to fluent speakers, learners, and anyone in between, so you don't need to be a native speaker to come along.
Bothan Dhùn Èideann is a not-for-profit group that's been active for over 21 years, promoting Scottish Gaelic language and culture here in Edinburgh and keeping a space where anyone, regardless of background, can feel comfortable celebrating it. This particular session is part of Fèill Sruth an Eòlais, a festival that grew out of the Edinburgh Folk Club. Its ethos is built around the 'carrying stream' — the way music, song, stories, and culture are passed from person to person and from one generation to the next. This edition honours the legacy of Hamish Henderson, the great Scottish folklorist, songwriter, and activist.
