Valentine's Edition of the compilation ballet show that pairs classical and contemporary works set to live music, recommended for ages 5 and over.
Ballet Nights comes to Usher Hall on Tuesday 16 February, a Valentine's Edition that puts classical and contemporary ballet side by side. It's a compilation show rather than a single production, so you get a few different pieces in one evening instead of one long story. The programme runs from iconic pas de deux to contemporary masterpieces and exclusive new works, and it's all set to live music.
Founder and compère Jamiel Devernay-Laurence introduces each piece, which makes it a good shout if you're not a regular ballet-goer — he welcomes newcomers as much as devotees, so you're not just dropped into the middle of things. The bill brings together towering choreographers, world-class ballet artists and rising stars, with the classical and contemporary works paired up rather than kept in separate halves. This particular edition celebrates romance and passion, and it follows runs at the Edinburgh Fringe, a return to Glasgow and a tour across the UK.
