Daytime indie party for over-30s with DJs spinning classics from 70s punk to 2000s indie, followed by a night in the pub downstairs.
An Afternoon of Indie returns to La Belle Angele on Saturday 24 October, for a daytime session that runs from 3pm to 7pm. It's the Edinburgh stop of what they call the UK's biggest indie party, now running across 17 cities and counting. The whole thing is built for the over-30s: there's a strict no-under-30s policy in place, and you'll need ID on entry.
On the decks are Feeling Gloomy and Old School Indie DJs, who'll be spinning classics across the decades. The set covers a fair bit of ground, taking in 70s punk, 80s new wave, 90s Britpop and early 2000s indie. The playlist draws on a long list of indie staples: Bowie, Pulp, the Clash, the Jam, the Cure, Joy Division, the Stone Roses, the Smiths and New Order, alongside the Strokes, Franz Ferdinand, Nirvana, the Kinks, Radiohead, Suede and the Beatles. It's a broad sweep of the genre, so you'll hear the early stuff and the more recent eras in the same afternoon.
Because it's a daytime special, the music stops at 7pm, which means you're home in time for dinner if that's your speed. But if you're not ready to call it a day, you can head downstairs to the pub and carry on there. It's a handy way to do a dance afternoon without having to commit to a late night.
