Alfie Brown brings his award-winning stand-up show 'The Entertainer' to The Stand Comedy Club, strictly for over-18s.
Alfie Brown returns to The Stand Comedy Club on Sunday 15 November with The Entertainer, the show he's been touring since 2022. It's a solo hour, written and performed by Brown, and it's a bit of a departure from the usual stand-up set. He describes it as the work of a man in crisis, desperate to find meaning in life, built around the question of what stand-up comedy is for in a world where technology makes life easier. It's a premise that gives the whole thing a certain weight, so it's not just a collection of jokes.
The show has picked up some serious praise along the way. Stewart Lee called it 'the best thing I saw last year', and The Scotsman gave it five stars, with the review summing it up as 'Wow! Fk! Wow!'. The List called it 'simply the future of British stand-up', The Guardian found it 'totally compelling', and The Times described it as 'forensically funny'. It won the Chortle Best Show Award in 2022 and was nominated for an Edinburgh Comedy Award that same year, so it's a well-regarded piece of work that's held up over a few years of touring.
