A humorous spoken word performance blending A Midsummer Night's Dream with original Scots poetry, following Nick Bottom the Weaver to the stage.
Martin O'Connor brings Bottom's Dream to Traverse 2 at the Traverse Theatre from Tuesday 20 to Saturday 24 October, with each performance starting at 1pm. It's a new spoken word piece, written under his Through the Shortbread Tin name and directed by Debbie Hannan, that weaves together the text of Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream and O'Connor's own original Scots-language poetry. The whole thing follows Nick Bottom the Weaver on his journey to the stage.
O'Connor describes it as a humorous and honest look at class, language and ambition, and it doesn't shy away from the questions at the heart of that: who belongs where, and how hard it is to rise to the top when you're always the Bottom. It's a 50-minute show, recommended for ages 14 and over, and it forms part of A Play, A Pie & A Pint, the Traverse's long-running audience favourite. The Traverse Bar opens an hour before the performance, so there's plenty of time to get settled before it starts.
