Dickens' classic A Christmas Carol comes to life at The Lyceum for the 2026 festive season, set in Victorian Edinburgh.
A Christmas Carol opens at The Royal Lyceum on 28 November 2026 and runs through to 3 January 2027, bringing Dickens' classic to the festive season. It's a story most of us know by heart: on Christmas Eve, three mysterious spirits whisk Ebenezer Scrooge on a whirlwind journey through his past, present and future as he searches for the true meaning of Christmas. This production sets the whole thing in Victorian Edinburgh, so the city itself gets a bit of a role in the backdrop.
Stuart Bowman takes on Scrooge, and he's joined by a full company: Aron Dochard, Stuart Edgar, Karen Fishwick, Jo Freer, John Macaulay, Kirsty McDuff, Isaac Savage, Betty Valencia and Ali Watt. It's directed by James Brining, the theatre's award-winning Artistic Director, with an adaptation by Deborah McAndrew. Brining's company describes the show as a Christmas tradition in the making, and it's one of the main fixtures of the Lyceum's winter programme.
If you're taking a school group, there are dedicated school performances at 10.15am on selected December dates, with drama workshops available alongside them. Those are recommended for ages seven and over, so it works for primary schools as well as older years. Tickets for those school shows are £14, and there's one free staff ticket for every ten pupils.
