Actors read deathly Gothic tales by classic authors in a one-hour theatrical program over two weekends at the historic Molly Brown House.
Victorian Horrors returns to the Molly Brown House Museum in Capitol Hill from October 15 to 24, 2026. It's a theatrical evening of deathly Gothic tales by long-gone authors read by local actors inside the home of the unsinkable Titanic heroine, Margaret Brown. The show runs over two weekends on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, with admission times every 15 minutes from 6 PM to 9 PM.
This year's edition leans on tales of the sea, bringing chills of terror and the smell of the ocean inside the house of a woman who survived not one, but two shipwrecks. The program features Jim Hunt portraying H.G. Wells, David and Julia Payne, Trina Magness, and John Wittbrodt. Magness has been with the cast since the late 1990s, playing Mary Shelley reading from Frankenstein, and Wittbrodt brings Edgar Allan Poe's work to the room.
The show dates back more than thirty years to when Jim Hunt and David and Julia Payne co-created it. Hunt still portrays H.G. Wells and haunts the house at Halloween, and Julia Elstun Payne has performed in and coordinated the production since its first season. It's a long-running tradition for the museum, and the cast has a deep history with the material.
