Holiday installment of Stories on Stage, a series of short literary works and songs staged by professional actors in the Arvada Center's Black Box Theatre.
Stories On Stage returns to the Arvada Center on Friday, December 11, with Making Merry, a holiday edition of the series. It's a single-night show, not an open-ended run, so this is the only chance to catch it this season.
For those who haven't followed them, Stories On Stage is a storytelling series that's been running in Arvada for more than two decades. They're currently in their 26th season, and the format is pretty straightforward: they bring in professional actors to perform dynamic short stories live on stage. Making Merry is the holiday installment of that, a collection of seasonal stories and songs put together for the winter months. It's staged in the Black Box Theatre, which is one of the smaller, more intimate spaces at the center, so you're close to the action rather than watching from the back of a big hall.
There's a bit more to the series than just the performances. The company's mission is to engage audiences through live stagings of short literary works, with the goal of inspiring empathy and breaking down boundaries between cultures and generations. They also partner with local schools to help foster the next generation of book lovers, writers, and empathetic citizens, so the work they do in the community runs alongside the shows they put on stage.
