World premiere comedy play by David Myers, directed by Margot Bordelon, at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts.
How to Conquer America: A Mostly True History of Yogurt opens at the Kilstrom Theatre on February 5, 2027, as a world premiere from the Denver Center Theatre Company. It's a comedy by David Myers, directed by Margot Bordelon, and it runs through February 28. The first preview is February 5, opening night is February 12, and the run closes on February 28.
The story takes us back to 1975 and follows Arlene, an ambitious research assistant who creates the ad campaign that transforms yogurt from a strange foreign laxative into a lucrative American phenomenon. It's a dairy-filled take on the American Dream that wrestles with storytelling, ambition, family, and identity. Along the way, Arlene's personal history comes into play, with her dead father threatening to unravel the story she's written for herself. The play is a recipient of an Edgerton Foundation New Play Award, and one 2025 Colorado New Play Summit attendee called it one of the more thought-provoking plays they'd seen in eight years of attending the Summit.
If you're interested in what happens after the curtain falls, there are post-show talkbacks on February 16 and 25. There's also an accessible performance with ASL interpretation and audio description on February 14 at 1:30 PM. The show runs about an hour and 40 minutes with no intermission, so you'll be in and out in one go.
