Head Trip: Swedish House Mafia, Skrillex

Swedish House Mafia and Skrillex are playing Red Rocks Amphitheatre on Sunday, October 11, under the title Head Trip. It's a double bill that puts two of the biggest names in electronic music on the same stage, and they're not the only ones on the bill—the announcement lists them with "+ More," so there'll be other acts filling out the night.

If you're not familiar with the names, it helps to know where they come from. Swedish House Mafia is the Swedish trio—Axwell, Steve Angello, and Sebastian Ingrosso—who spent the late 2000s and early 2010s defining the sound of the big-room house era. They've gone through a few breakups and reunions since then, but they've always returned to that same dancefloor-focused approach. Skrillex, on the other hand, is the American producer who became the face of dubstep in the early 2010s before shifting his sound toward house and bass music over the last few years. Seeing them together on one bill is a bit of a crossover: the Swedish house sound and the American bass scene meeting in the same place.

Because it's Red Rocks, the setting is part of the experience. The venue is carved right into the red sandstone of the foothills, with the stage set against the rocks and the city of Denver visible in the distance. It's an outdoor space, so the weather will play a part in how the night goes. The show falls on a Sunday, October 11, so it's a weekend date rather than a weekday night.

Between the two headliners and the additional support, there's a fair amount of ground to cover. The lineup is Swedish House Mafia and Skrillex, plus more to be announced. It all goes down at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Denver on Sunday, October 11.
