Hi-Dive is hosting its annual Halloween show on Saturday, October 31, and this year it's a cover-themed bill. The venue is putting it on themselves, and the lineup is a wide-ranging set of tributes to some pretty distinct sounds. The main feature is a run of covers of The B52's, Wire, Misfits, The Monks, and Beat Happening.
That's a lot of ground to cover in one night. You've got the danceable, party-ready side of The B52's, the jagged post-punk of Wire, the horror-punk of the Misfits, the raw, garage-rock energy of The Monks, and the lo-fi, stripped-back approach of Beat Happening. It's a bill that jumps from dance floor to mosh pit to basement tape without much warning, so it's less of a single mood and more of a survey of different corners of the underground. The whole thing is built around the cover theme, with each set taking on one of those bands.
Beyond the main run, the night includes KYC DJs and a surprise set, so there's more to the evening than just the five bands on the bill. It's all part of Hi-Dive's annual Halloween tradition, and the venue is presenting it as a cover-themed night.
